Standard statement

6.NS.B.4 | Number Systems, Operations & Abstract Representation

Grade 6

Find the greatest common factor of two whole numbers less than or equal to 100 and the least common multiple of two whole numbers less than or equal to 12. Use the distributive property to express a sum of two whole numbers 1-100 with a common factor as a multiple of a sum of two whole numbers with no common factor. *For example, express 36 + 8 as 4 (9 + 2).*.

The Science of Craft unit banner

STEM is older and more expansive than you might imagine. Crafted materials, like knit sweaters and woven baskets, were our ancestors’ solutions to everyday problems. In this lesson, we learn the geometry and physics of traditional crafts, and explore how these technologies help us engineer new solutions for the future!

Lesson 2

Students revisit the idea of greatest common factors. They learn that regular polygons whose interior angles are factors of 360 (triangles, squares, hexagons) can tile flat, gap-free patterns. On the other hand, regular polygons whose interior angles are not factors of 360 (pentagons, heptagons, octagons) cannot tile flat, gap-free patterns.
